2019 marks 100 years since the completion of Elgar’s Cello Concerto, one of the most beloved and admired works in classical music history.

The Elgar Festival celebrates this momentous occasion with a gala performance of the Cello Concerto by cellist Raphael Wallfisch and the English Symphony Orchestra, as part of an immersive and engaging schedule of festival events including talks, poetry readings, recitals, choral concerts, family events and more, taking place across Worcester City Centre.

The Elgar Festival is for Everyone! It is a celebration of Worcester’s most famous musical son set in his home town and surrounds. With a legacy of music to stir the soul and inspire every heart, Elgar is for YOU! Our developing range of events are for people of all ages, interests, and lifestyles … come along and join the Festival fun!

Held annually during the weekend closest to Elgar’s birthday (2 June 1857), the festival combines symphonic and string orchestra concerts by the festival’s orchestra-in-residence, the English Symphony Orchestra, with chamber concerts, choral concerts, recitals, outdoor concerts, plays, exhibits and talks.

Venues for the festival include Worcester Cathedral, Huntingdon Concert Hall, The ‘Henry Sandon’ Hall, Royal Porcelain Works, the Elgar Birthplace, Worcester Guildhall and the Elgar School of Music.

The Festival brings together the full gamut of leading musical and educational organisations across Worcestershire with a starry array of internationally renowned guest artists.

The first annual festival in 2018 offered a diverse array of events in Worcester and was a Critic’s Pick in both The Guardian and The Times. In 2019, the festival expands to four days and incorporates an ambitious programme of concerts, workshops and recitals alongside a wide range of educational activities and community projects.

Check out our Events Page to see what exciting Elgar-themed activities are taking place at Royal Porcelain Works, including hosting Elgar’s very own piano from his home and we invite everyone to come and tinkle on same keys played by the legend himself.!

This is truly Elgar for Everyone!

There are a host of activities taking place at Royal Porcelain Works, that can be found on our events page.

Anyone is welcome to come along and play Sir Edward’s piano! And if you can’t play any Elgar but maybe some Beatles songs, or other, we won’t tell!

You will find Elgar’s piano within a ‘set’ of Elgar’s home, looking as it would have done in the composers own home, located in The Foyer at Royal Porcelain Works, next to Nest Worcester, opposite the Museum of Royal Worcester.
